How I approach it
- Design the API around how clients will use it, not around the database tables.
- Validate every input and enforce permissions on the server, never only in the UI.
- Make slow work asynchronous so requests stay fast.
- Log and monitor enough to know about problems before users report them.

Questions
Django, FastAPI or Node.js?
Django when you want a mature framework with an admin and ORM out of the box, FastAPI for lean, typed Python APIs and AI workloads, and Node.js when the team is JavaScript-first.
Can you build the API for our mobile app?
Yes. I built and fixed the Django backends for the Locavoriste and Vaalala mobile apps.
